Companies until recently in USA could not include the fair value of Bitcoin they owned in their balance sheets, MicroStrategy found a work around, but still complex and required understanding and study to apply the strategy, now the rule has changed, which is HUGE, now companies in USA can write the fair value in their balance sheets using the usual tools and methods they have for ever.... This will open the door for institutional buying even before spot ETFs
Fair Value Accounting definition It is a financial reporting approach where companies are required or permitted to measure and report, on an ongoing basis, certain assets and liabilities at estimates of the prices they would receive if they were to sell the assets or would pay, if they were to be relieved of the liabilities.
The rules, expected to be published by the end of the year, are set to go into effect as soon as 2025, but companies will be able to apply them earlier than that, the report said.

The door is opening for companies and beating the funds but it’s not quite there yet. There is significant reputational risk and shareholder concern around the issue of Bitcoin. A relatively small number of companies will have the appetite for this at the moment but it only takes a few to show the way. Certainly bullish.

I agree that was the case until the day that Blackrock and Fidelity applied for a spot ETF. Not anymore
