@hn stopped working since this post because the HN Firebase API no longer works with IPv6:
$ curl https://hacker-news.firebaseio.com/v0/topstories.json -6 -v * Trying 2600:1901:0:4d00::... * TCP_NODELAY set * Connected to hacker-news.firebaseio.com (2600:1901:0:4d00::) port 443 (#0) * ALPN, offering h2 * ALPN, offering http/1.1 * successfully set certificate verify locations: * CAfile: /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt CApath: /etc/ssl/certs * TLSv1.3 (OUT), TLS handshake, Client hello (1): * OpenSSL SSL_connect: SSL_ERROR_SYSCALL in connection to hacker-news.firebaseio.com:443 * Closing connection 0 curl: (35) OpenSSL SSL_connect: SSL_ERROR_SYSCALL in connection to hacker-news.firebaseio.com:443
And I wasn't able to force net/http to use IPv4 :(
I'll write dan
edit: Okay, I am dumb, I disabled IPv6 on my local machine and IPv6 no longer works on my VPS for some reason, lol
But I now tried my Linode server and there, it works. So I guess the error is on my VPS hosting provider side
edit 2:
But other domains work with IPv6 on that VPS 🤔🤔🤔
Did I get banned on IPv6? But I only poll every hour

But I guess it would look different if my IP got banned. However, Golang did report these errors as connection reset by peer (or there were different errors at that time?) which look more like a ban:
