Sadly there are a friggin' TON of shitcoin-requiring youtube alternatives, most famously LBRY which the SEC cracked down hard on. Odysee is it's most popular platform. Dlive, LivePeer, Theta, Veracity & DTube also fall into this dead-end camp.
Then there are the DINO (Decentralized In Name Only) youtube knock-offs that make users think they are decentralized when all the while they run on centralized servers. BitChute is the king of these, and at one time they did accept Bitcoin, alas, no longer! Tipping there is done via Paypal now, LOL!
I haven't found any Bitcoin-only platforms at all, but Nostr users can Kinda make their own by uploading videos to https://nostr.build and then inserting that video into their nostr posts. Then you'd have all the lightning interaction you want, but would not have a great way for people to find your content like on YouTube. The closest thing is using Nostrgram or yakihonne.com to browse videos on Nostr.
Can't wait until there's a YouTube clone on Nostr! I'll be among the first to upload a bunch of content there.
Indeed. Thanks for this explanation. Perhaps building a decentralized Youtube could be amongst the best developments to happen if or when it does. I think overtime perhaps this could be a reality. For now I think Youtube is perhaps the preferred platform despite centralization.

I agree and I'm a noob developer so I am looking into what it would take to make a YT clone on Nostr... I think it would work but 1) it would be a huge project outside of my expertise, and 2) integrating the CDN (like nostr.build) so that users can simply upload their videos inside the app would be all-important... But it's not settled yet exactly how clients can pull this off. Doesn't seem impossible tho. 3) Also, users might get fatigued really quickly on paying to store their content. This might be the worst stumbling block, in fact, even if it's really cheap.

Indeed. Youtube has thousands of videos. imagine having to pay a sat each time for a video to be uploaded. I think perhaps Bitcoin University said it best. Blockchain is best for money that is scarce and censorship-resistant. Maybe centralized platforms are best for most other content. As long as there is censorship-resistant money, that's ok perhaps. It gives people an option to use the money. Please see link below:
