These are lightly edited quotes from an email chain I came across while i was clearing out old messages. Judging from the archives, this was some of the first bitcoin I ever acquired.
2013 -
Me: hey, i sent that giant stuffed tiger to you. it was $25 shipping. Can you send me bitcoins?
Friend: Nah I haven't any, don't you find that the currency is too volatile anyway? And the price of a single bitcoin fairly high? I can paypal you.
Me: I don't care much about the minor fluctuations now, because I expect they'll be very small when compared with the price down the road. Regarding single coin prices, I think of the BitCoin as a good place to retain liquidity rather than a good utility as cash... so it doesn't matter to me how much a single coin costs. [editors note: wtf are you talking about "retain liquidity"? you nitwit... oh man, this was before you fell down the rabbit hole, i guess.]
Friend: thanks. I just downloaded a documentary about bitcoin, will watch soon.
Me: cool. i'll send you an invite to the wallet service i use when i get home.
Your request for 0.0229XX BTC (worth $25.02 USD) has been sent to friend[at]friendsemail[dot]com
If I hadn't lost it, that bitcoin would be worth >$700 today.
