Good morning stackers.
I surpassed another 52560 blocks at the weekend! And doing fun stuff cost me.my cowboy hat :(
Still I'm hear to talk about Bass, dirty stinking bass.
You know, Bass, the buttery biscuit bass.
So my submission to you all this morning for smooth sexy bass lines. Is: https://youtu.be/tT4d1LQy4es?si=HmwZ9ZMqmoFGzSAZ Allanah Myles - Black Velvet.
In my opinion has one of the sexiest bass lines I've heard!
So gimme tracks with some great/iconic baselines.
And you thought this whole thread was going to be about dubstep or DnB. I do love those genres but I'm talking about those iconic base lines.
Intro to Filter's "Hey Man Nice Shot" is a really simple but incredible bass line because it sets a brooding mood for what is a dark and heavy themed song.

I see what you mean. It does set the tone for the whole track. It's simple alternate picking but it's so sustained it's almost ominous.

I lent my buddy my bass guitar so he could learn how to play just so he could play that riff. He never learned and I never got the guitar back. Haha.

Do covers count?
Money For Nothing Bass Cover

Always, I love a cover, I find it so interesting to hear another musicians interpretation. And that was excellent. 🤣 His straight bass face was what sold it.
Still the greatest intro of all time.

Hmmm. Struggling with this one..
Dim by Skyharbor (from the album Sunshine Dust)
Slightly overpowered but it’s there…

There's some really cool elements there. A lot of metal is quite basic from a bass point of view. (I'm looking at you Steve Harris, I love ya and simple can be effective, but it is still simple). Bassist used some really cool funk style concepts in this track, especially whilst mirroring the guitar during the 1minuteish mark.
You're right, it's not easy to pick out but it's there.

I wanted to suggest something different to the more obvious Metallica (a defining element in their songs to my mind) or Iron Maiden (yes, simple but hard to execute well and very effective).

Don't get me wrong my little.jab at Steve Harris was completely with respect to him. I am a huge maiden fan. Steve's gallop style is iconic. And like you said, simple, but hard to do well.

Muse - Undisclosed Desires

Was lucky enough to see muse live. They really do put on a show. Excellent live and brilliant musicians.

Great shout. Iconic track. Still an absolute banger, when it comes on shuffle these days it doesn't get skipped.
