Firstly, shout out to @Undisciplined for posting my crazy thought experiment on his Econ Meta Takeover. Looks like it is getting some really good comments and traction. If you haven't checked out his daily econ posts please do. Sometimes I get wrapped up in doing the Stacker Sports posts, pool, contests and engaging with all the comments (not that I am complaining) that I don't spend enough time wandering the SN town square and popping in to see, or partake in some of the great conversations that go on here.
Full slate of NBA games last night. I watched most of the Timberwolves v.s Raptors game, a bit of the Mavericks vs Spurs game and a bit of the Trail Blazers vs Clippers game. The first two mentioned were good games and the last one was a good game if you are a Clippers fan or a Blazers fan who wants them to tank.
So today's post is what are your thoughts on the NBA season so far if you are following and since we are just a couple days away from the World Series starting who are you picking and how many games? (Just for fun, we have all proven to be terrible at MLB predictions). I'll take Rangers in 6 even though I would like to see the Dbacks win (despite their awful uniforms).
Sats for all.
Cheers, GR
The only game I watched last night was Miami/Detroit. The takeaways are that Tyler Herro is playing like a madman and Detroit will be pretty fun.
I just started watching the condensed Celtics/Knicks game. They're a little rusty, but this Celtics roster is so well constructed.
From opening night: Jokic is unbelievable and Lebron is still freakishly athletic. I heard someone describe old Lebron as "Karl Malone's body, but with a smart basketball brain".

Raptors looked better than I expected. Much better ball movement than last year and they didn't blow it in the last 3 mins like they did so many times last year. Schroeder looked good. Barnes was all over the place, even though he didn't shoot well. Siakam had an off game but they still found a way to win. I am hopeful. They aren't a great team but they have more depth than last year and enough talent to have a good season.
It was also nice to have a coach that wasn't throwing a tantrum after every foul. I like Nurse but his hyper "passionate" schtick got a bit old.

Maybe, they'll get in on the Embiid or Doncic sweepstakes when those guys get disgruntled. It seems like the Raptors have needed to make a trade for a few years now.

I am fine with a development year for Raps. New coach, new system, Barnes in third year now. Dick should be a nice 3pt shooter piece that they have been missing for years. They absolutely need the superstar but maybe not this year.
I am more interested in who the 49ers are going to trade for. Not to detract from NBA talk.
reply
I'd love for you guys to get Hunter Renfrow. I know he'd be used properly on the other side of the bay.

Unless Deebo's injury is going to be long term, I don't think they will go after a WR. Mostly likely an edge rusher to play opposite Bosa. None of their experiments there have worked this year. They just traded for Gregory a couple weeks ago and he is serviceable there as part of a rotation but isn't going to be the no brainer solution.
They could also upgrade at CB and OL but it will be really hard to pry away a high quality OLineman.
There are rumours they might be interested in Cordarrelle Patterson as CMC/Deebo insurance since can be useful in both the run and pass game similar to those guys. I don't think that's their immediate need though so I think that would be a situation that if Falcons wanted to get rid of him the 49ers would be happy to add the depth but they aren't going to reach to get him.

Patterson might not be a need, but he's such a perfect 49er. I loved him when he was with the Raiders.

Knicks lost so I am sad. Can’t believe Porzingus dropped 30 😆

Revenge game. How are you feeling about the Bills tonight?
reply
My confidence is destroyed! They should put up 30+ on this team but last 3 weeks got me scared another sluggish start
reply
Wasn't seamless but it was a W.

Offense came out blazing but then fizzled but I am in much better headspace

D played well but they are still missing Milano. What do you think they do at the trade deadline?
reply
Yea we are and Tre too. Not sure to be honest.

Early NBA thoughts are still "meh"
