If you own 49% of a stock you probably have a lot of power tho. Not only in direct voting power and seats on the board but also a lot of soft power and influence on management

49% of a private business is a better example. In public companies 49% would give you a lot of power. Many activist investors manage to effect great change at public companies with only 5 or 6% of the shares.
