In late 2017 and early 2018, an anonymous individual using the pseudonym "Pine" started a philanthropic project known as the Pineapple Fund. This mysterious donor revealed their plan to donate a significant portion of their Bitcoin wealth, which was estimated to be around 5,057 Bitcoins (worth tens of millions of dollars at the time) to various charitable causes.
The Pineapple Fund welcomed applications from nonprofit organizations and charities, and it received a flood of requests from around the world. Pine made numerous donations to causes such as clean water projects, mental health initiatives, and medical research. In total, Pine donated more than $55 million worth of Bitcoin to various charitable endeavors.
Pine's decision to remain anonymous added an element of mystery to the project, and it highlighted the potential for cryptocurrencies to be used for charitable purposes. The Pineapple Fund served as a reminder that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies could be powerful tools for philanthropy, enabling transparent and borderless donations to make a positive impact on a global scale.
Puts me in mind of one of my favorite daydreaming pastimes: imagine that you have $55 million to budget to make bitcoin a success. How do you deploy that capital?
(Yeah, I realize that's a different goal than what the Pineapple fund was trying to accomplish.)

Would be interesting to see how all those beneficiaries are doing these days. The list was published, if I remember correctly.
The only one I can recall offhand is Andreas.

The MAPS donation was huge. It's crazy to see how much progress they've made the last few years with that money, after decades of close to nothing.
