The Catholic Church is an incredible example of this with the Bishop of Rome morphing into what we now know as the Pope in the 11th Century as Christianity split East-West, Orthodox-Catholic and of course this goes back much further than this as well.
The City of London is also a really interesting organisation; from Wikipedia: “The city has a unique political status, a legacy of its uninterrupted integrity as a corporate city since the Anglo-Saxon period”. It is also fascinating in that it allows corporations to vote in the civic elections, almost unique in the world at large. As a side note, if you work in the City find out who manages your company’s voting delegation and get involved, it is really interesting.
So many powerful organisations rise and fall but what is it that sets these ones apart?
What other examples are there?
