The autheor mentions language-level capabilities as a likely solution to supply-chain attacks. Besides the language mentioned by the author, there is also Newspeak. I can't say which is better, but it's worth investigating both.
Another point the author mentions is that using widespread usage of such languages is perhaps a decade away or more. Even 30 years is probably a naive expectation, because there is a non-trivial amount of resistance to using such languages. No matter what anyone says, C is the beloved foundation of everything right now. And we are all suffering for it.
Worse, you can write your web app in such a langauge, but your OS is still written in C. Writing an OS in such a language would take a long time, and few, if anybody, is even interested. Such an OS would have to begin just like the Linux kernel: as a hobby that gradually transformed into an industry-leading family of OSes. I am interested in contributing to such a project (and have ideas of my own), but I'm no Linus Torvalds.
