Yes for Electrum Bitcoin Wallet. I use it myself for 2of2 multisig setups wirh real people whose private key is unknown to me (and vice versa). It helps newcomers realize they can not do any mistake to lose their coins and I have no powers to steal from them because I also need their consent to do anything with my part of the funds.
No for the second part where you say it is like running the core wallet… It's not. You depend on real nodes (can be even pruned) to keep the network being what you expect it to be.
Stacker News may be actually a distraction in learning to understand Bitcoin. Reading articles instead of original (usually older) sources can be misleading. Watching YouTube videos instead of formulating questions in your head and experimenting with them hands-on may also leave you at least one step behind.
This is not about perfection. Perfect is the enemy of good. Each one of us have their means to come to the point when we feel we understand the topic enough to clearly distinguish true from false.
