I'm based out of Europe and have a miner deployed with one of the commercial mining providers in Texas. My miner is now down and they want to send it off for a hashboard repair and according to them I have to pay for that since the warranty has expired. Here are the facts:
  • Purchase made on 28 Apr 2023
  • Miner online 10 Jul 2023
  • Miner reported as broken on 5 November 2023
  • The miner manufacturer has a warranty period of 6 months
There is a span of 119 days between July 10 and 5 November, which is way less than 6 months.
They wrote me: "We were able to diagnose your XXXX-miner that went down recently, it needs a hashboard level repair. As this miner is no longer under warranty, we must first collect a $500 deposit before sending it to our off-site repair facility." "The warranty is being issued by the manufacturer of the miner and not us the vendor. The warranty started when the miner was released by the manufacturer and not the time when the miner started hashing."
Is this true? In Europe the reseller is responsible for the warranty and it starts at the time that the customer receives the goods, which would be 10 July in my case. Their statement doesn't make sense to me since I cannot know when the reseller took the goods in stock, so I basically have no idea how much warranty I have left. Are USA consumers so poorly protected?
Any insights are appreciated :).
Yes, we are poorly protected.
Also, this sounds scammy as hell. Name and shame!

I'd say, don't trust these people. Sounds like they are trying to run a scam. Not your miner, not your hashrate.
