How To Stack Sats on Slice
Slice is a free browser extension that lets anyone stack sats for viewing ads.
Slice inserts ads into your existing web browsing experience, which appear occasionally on Twitter, Google, and other sites you frequently visit. The thing that makes Slice ads different from other ads is that every time you view a Slice ad, you earn money.
To get started, set up an account with your email address and install the browser extension.
Once you’ve set up your account and the extension, there are three ways you can stack sats:
Browsing the internet
Creating content
Referring new users to Slice
Let’s explore each option below.
Browsing The Internet
Anyone can start stacking sats right away by installing the Slice browser extension and going about their typical internet browsing habits.
Once installed, you’ll see the occasional ad inserted into your web browsing experience.
One important note is that Slice ads to not block or help you earn from the native web advertisements on platforms like Google and Twitter. Slice dynamically inserts additional ads that allow you to earn while browsing online.
Users can customize their preferred ad frequency from the Slice browser extension if they want to earn more or if they find that the ads are too intrusive. As of today, the Slice browser extension is only available on desktop devices.
A Cautionary Note
As you view ads, you will begin to accrue a balance in your Slice wallet. The balance is denominated in “Slices”, which is the in-app currency Slice uses for rewards. Slices are not a token or cryptocurrency, they simply represent 1/10th of one penny, and can be redeemed for sats.
Slice requires you to vest these funds for 30 days within your Slice wallet before they can be withdrawn as sats on the Lightning Network. Unfortunately, because Slice rewards are not denominated in sats, the sats value of your “Slices” will go down as the price of Bitcoin goes up.
I hope Slice re-considers their 30-day withholding period and their USD-denominated “Slices”. These add layers of complexity and confusion for users, and don’t let them benefit from the sound monetary policies and instant payment settlement speeds of Bitcoin & Lightning.
Creating Content
Another way to earn money on Slice is as a creator. Slice offers Twitch streamers the ability to earn a portion of the fees generated by their viewers on the platform.
Every time a Slice user interacts with a Slice ad shown on a creator’s Twitch stream, the payout value of the ad is split 50/50 between the content creator and the consumer.
In addition, Slice users have the ability to donate their “Slices” to creators. 100% of the value of these donations is paid to creators, but once again, these donations are denominated in “Slices”, not sats.
Slice plans to introduce a similar feature for YouTube creators in the coming months, allowing all YouTube creators and consumers to stack sats for viewing or supporting ads on the platform.
Referring New Users to Slice
Finally, you can stack sats on Slice by referring new users to the platform. Slice users can find their referral code by logging in to Slice and clicking Crew.
Every time a Slice user refers someone to the platform, the referrer get 1,000 “Slices”, and the referee gets 100 “Slices”.
Slice pays out both the rewards after the referee has been active for 30 days. However, just like all Slice payments, the referral reward also takes an additional 30 days to vest before it can be withdrawn.
This means that it takes at least 60 days for a referrer or referee to withdraw a reward generated by their referral.
How Does Slice Make Money?
Slice earns money from their advertising partners as their users view ads, just like how Facebook, Twitter, Google, and every other internet ad platform earn for their advertising.
The difference is that while other platforms keep all of their advertising revenue for themselves, Slice pays a portion of their earnings back to the users who actually make their product valuable.
Getting Paid on Slice
Once your Slice rewards have vested, you are able to instantly withdraw them using any Lightning Network wallet.
Slice estimates that users can earn $3-$5 each month depending on how frequently they browse the internet, and potentially more over time as Slice attracts more lucrative advertisement partners.
Final Thoughts
Slice is one of the most convenient tools I’ve come across for stacking sats. Slice’s ad integrations are well-designed, and the mental cost of viewing Slice ads is low.
In addition, Slice has an intuitive and easy-to-use Lightning Network integration powered by ZBD.
I hope Slice continues to improve their internal processes to take advantage of the speed of Lightning payments and the sound money properties of Bitcoin.
