BitVM is and how it differs from Lightning:
  1. BitVM: BitVM is a powerful virtual machine that is designed to handle a large number of transactions quickly and efficiently. It acts as a platform for executing smart contracts, which are self-executing agreements with predefined rules. BitVM's primary goal is to process transactions at a high speed, ensuring that users can carry out transactions seamlessly.
  2. Lightning: On the other hand, Lightning is a scaling solution for blockchain networks, particularly Bitcoin. It aims to address the issue of scalability by enabling faster and cheaper transactions. Lightning is built on top of the underlying blockchain and allows users to create payment channels. These channels can be used to conduct off-chain transactions, which are not directly recorded on the blockchain. Lightning provides a way to conduct transactions quickly and at a lower cost compared to traditional on-chain transactions.
  3. Differences: The main difference between BitVM and Lightning lies in their purpose and functionality. BitVM focuses on providing a high-performance virtual machine to process a large number of transactions per second. It is primarily used for executing smart contracts and ensuring smooth transaction processing. On the other hand, Lightning is a scaling solution that enables faster and cheaper transactions by leveraging off-chain payment channels. While both BitVM and Lightning aim to improve transaction processing, they do so through different approaches and target different aspects of blockchain scalability.
