For some reason I just can wrap my head around what this is.

We pay 500 sats and in exchange, you route 88 TH/s to BraiinsPool on our behalf for 3 hours? And if the pool finds a block while our effective scoring hash rate is nonzero, we get the payout? Is that right?

That's correct -

You mine at Braiins pool for 3 hours, and get a payout if the pool wins a block during that timeframe.

It's a bit of fun on Thanksgiving and we'll ask everyone for some feedback and give extra hashrate this afternoon.

It works well, but just be mindful of the minimum withdrawals for whichever pool you will be using.

Also, you may want to use Luxor or F2pool instead of Braiins. See this: #299891

I think one aspect that folks should be aware of is Braiins Pool's 100K sat minimum payout (with 10K sat fees for payouts less than 1M sats, IIRC). I can't say for sure how many sats you'll earn with 88 TH/s running for 3 hours (maybe none, based on the pool's luck), but just be aware that you'll likely end up with nonredeemable sats in your Braiins Pool account. Just an FYI to newbies!

Yes, this is correct!

With Braiins pool's share scheme -- Pay Per Last N Shares (PPLNS) -- you're not guaranteed a payout like with (Full) Pay Per Share (F/PPS) pools, which do pay the hashprice in sats/TH/s/day worth of work contributed.

Also, Braiins has a 0.001 btc or 100k sats payout threshold (all pools i'm aware of have payout thresholds)

Braiins however uses a fixed payout fee for under 0.01 btc or 1M sats (which is unique to them and not great imo).

With Rigly's "test drive" you're bascially paying 500 sats to try out mining. It's not necessarily going to pay dividends, but still, for a quarter you get real hashrate and could also potentially make a buck's worth of sats if you're lucky and Braiins finds a block, so there's that. Notice however, with 3 hours of hashrate you are v. unlikely to meet Braiins payout threshold.

Well, this was a cool experience. As a non technical person, the onboarding was relatively easy and I was able to setup my account in just a few minutes.

It's quite exciting to have your "own" mining hashrate even if it's for a while. A great way to know more about the mining process and get started.

Braiins dashboard is quite comprehensive and intuitive, and the training material is very helpful. I just had some issues trying to follow the instructions to add my address but I was eventually able to do it by myself.
