To be fair there is a graph here. and it seems like BTC nodes hit all time high this month.

There are a lot of nodes running that are not "reachable". This includes my node which I've not configured port forwarding on my broadband gateway (e.g., cablemodem, and/or Wi-fi access point) to permit that. I suspect this is typical and not the exception.
