Adopted Graphene as my daily driver.
Was going to get podcast 2.0 app going but instead migrated my stacker login. The ease of linking and unlinking login methods is really nice.
Have been carrying around two phones for a bit now and find my self gping back to iOS less and less.
Fingers memorozing the new keyboard and such.
Missing so far: Spotify, Discord, Meetup. Hoping to replace those eventually with something else but there's some friction to be smoothed out.
Obtanium app store is neat and all i've used so far. Browser for email stuffs since I need them for kiddo school things and other things in normie land.
Debating a Mullvad VPN and open to ideas.
Its been refreshing to have excellent battery life since my apps arent comstantly tracking me.
Mulling over how to get my wife to care about privacy. And more importantly, my kids. Planning to start them on Linux so there's that.
Thanks for reading my ramblings.
I haven't seen anyone recommend this app but its a good option for privacy. Its called Orbit
Orbit is basically an app that you can use to route traffic from specific apps through a tor connection. If you use Nostr on your phone this is a great option to protect your IP address. This app allows you to use Tor for apps that don't support Tor.
Now, Tor has its own set of tradeoffs, the biggest one is performance.

why not use them on laptop only?

How?

OK but how to do you pay Mullvad over LN specifically? They only accept on-chain payments on their site and they are not available on Bitrefill..

some unsolicited advice: this freebie is telling you that you need to do more PoW
you will be greatly rewarded in the future where we will then be able to waste our time together more efficiently :)
reply
now I see why this freebie no time for the fun test! acceptable.

yes, sounds about right! @ekzyis is a bit fighty:))
Also, to make it more private, I pay it with Lightning ( Tor available ) https://vpn.sovereign.engineering/
From my understanding, the builder of this site brought a bunch of top-up codes and then offered this service. However, if you would like to use this tool, a better practice is to use the purchase voucher option and then redeem the voucher without even giving away the account number.

Thatals what i do now. Might become default

another hack I've found with Mullvad is simply change the account ID every three months:)
reply
Spotify and Discord suck balls anyway.
reply
Good stuff! I imagine transitioning from iOS must be harder than from android.
I use Mullvad and like it but I am certainly not a VPN expert by any means.
reply
Harder isnt the term. Just friction. But im a dev/tech dude so can navigate the challenges easier than non-technical people

Hell yes. We’re going to have so many people running Graphene by end of next month.
Like if it’s not 51% of Stacker News users, I will eat my cowboy hat 🤠

Spotify: MP3s, self hosted.
There's an app called Spotube which will read your spotify playlists and download mp3s from youtube. You can also check F-Droid for open source apps to replace some things. I suggest Organic Maps to replace any map apps.
Mullvad rocks, happy with that for a while and I'm on CalyxOS.
Graphene does the typical extra privileged access that Android grants to Google's apps, and has a 'compatibility layer' that keeps almost all of the functionality despite not having the privileged access. You'd have to get deep into the weeds to make a detailed assessment, but I run Discord/Spotify and others in a separate profile with Google apps.
Compartmentalizing feels pretty similar to what you might do with browsing/VPNs/Tor.
