On the day there was enough opposition and debate to prevent a stalemate for the pro surveillance camp (pushing H.R.6611) not to succeed; however, the bill to end surveillence (H.R.6570) didn't pass either.
Because of this stalemate, the present surveillance law, which was set to expire at the end of December was extended to April 2024 - there's no set date for surveillance to be debated before this time.
This does allow more citizens to get informed and involved though. The Electronic Frontier Foundation has created a rough template for constituents to use in contacting legislators to vote no on H.R.6611: https://act.eff.org/action/tell-congress-they-must-defeat-hpsci-s-horrific-surveillance-bill
