Happy holidays stackers :)
Pretty straightforward here. Let's share all the lessons from life we picked up this year. The easy, the hard, the expected and the unexpected!
A few of mine:
  • Create global friendships. Create more reasons to expand your horizons.
  • Linear inputs yield exponential outputs.
  • Expanding your surface area for luck is a skill that you can sharpen.
  • Just because you can't reach someone doesn't mean you can't help them.
  • Cherish your health. It's far too easy to take for granted.
  • Entertain ideas, not egos.
And always have a plan for surprise car trouble...ugh.
What about you?
  • alcohol isn't worth it (for me)
  • the most interesting stuff is found out on the "skinny branches" & the more obscure corners of the internet (places like Stacker News) https://meaningness.com/geeks-mops-sociopaths
  • colonialism never ended (Book: The Divide, Jason Hickel)
  • root cause of most environmental problems = soft money

⚡ Earning money is useless if you don't share it with those you love
⚡ Hard work, as long as you are passionate about it, has rewards
⚡ Being your own node is worth it as long as you want to be free

Love all of these, working on the third one ;)

i learned how to cook this year, very glad i did and excited for more in 2024.
reply
What was your strategy... Youtube? Personal lessons? Meal kits?
Dishes put me off
reply
a few things coincided to kickstart my cooking habit.
first, i tried 100% grassfed beef for the first time about a year ago and was blown away by how different the taste and nutrition profile was compared to typical grocery store meat.
then i went down the farmers market rabbit hole and began seeing what other foods i could find that are way better than grocery store variants.
and then once i began sourcing more high quality food i felt guilty for not cooking it well so i felt incentivized to really get good at cooking the basics.
chatgpt has been a great tool for asking questions and getting recipe ideas, probably 20-30% of all my prompts are related to cooking.
reply
chatgpt is amazing for recipes.
"I got these X ingredients leftover in my fridge that I need to use up, what can I make with them?"

yes!
and now you can even just take a photo of the items in your fridge
reply
scary how quickly this has gotten so good...
reply
How is it on taste?
You can make what it says - but was the recipe any good?
reply
In my experience the end result is delicious, but it is up for the cook to make it taste good haha.
ChatGPT is great at recommending items that pair well together, but it’s up to you to cook them properly. but you can always ask follow up questions on how to cook it too!
And if you’re going for a certain flavor, tell the robot that. It may recommend an ingredient you have on hand that you never thought to use before.
reply
if u got a dishwasher then take full advantage of it. If not then i understand your pain. The key is washing dishes as you cook -- an equally important skill to make it all more enjoyable
reply
UTXOs consolidation is an important thing.

No one can prepare you for what it’s like to have a child, it’s just something you have to learn first hand.

And boy has it been great. 9 weeks in.

I've learned that exoteric and esoteric is a matter of education, deprogramming, self discipline and observation.
I'm susceptible to rug pulls by ignorance, nascence and fear.
I've been pretty lucky so far but maybe that's because I'm a valuable slave.
There are groups of people who are very organized, criminal and still sad.
The truth is here in front of us but sometimes there is an amusement park set up in front of it for entertainment and wealth extraction.
Don't give your time to people who won't pay you for it. Don't give your hard earned sats to those who do shitty work.
Read a lot of books and your mind becomes stronger.
Bitcoin is still amazing because it attracts people who are way smarter than me.
Bitcoin isn't the answer but it is a ledger that anyone can write to and keep up with energy.
Ordinary things are extraordinary.

  • Basics of monetary theory
  • Some facts re the quantum resistance of various types of Bitcoin addresses. And consequently better security practices.
  • Running a full node.
  • How my meatspace friends are different from me. But we can still be friends. Still learning that though.

I'm studying a lot about Bitcoin and putting it to the test. Until a year ago I didn't know anything about Bitcoin, I only heard about Bitcoin but I didn't see or know how it worked. Luckily I am educating myself for my future

Happy holidays, indeed! 🎄🎅 I love your list of lessons learned this year. They're all so relatable and inspiring. I especially appreciate the reminder to cherish our health and the importance of expanding our horizons.
reply
  1. Bitcoin is the only true money.
  2. Nostr is the only true social media.
  3. Stacker News is the only true source of information.
  • These 3, there's no second best.
  1. Self custodial and non-kyc is the only way.
  2. Taxation is theft.
reply
Not much so far. The year feels still young crazy as it is.
  • crossing the Rubicon out of Fiat to now 99% BTC feels like a crazy fountain of youth!
  • politics is something for parasites and degenerates
  • it's better to leave a project that doesn't fit to You than to get up every morning with the wish to puke
reply
  • I can still learn a lot, even about areas that I thought I was pretty decent in (I thought I was decent in nutrition, and I probably was compared to 99% of people, but then learned about the carnivore diet)

Bitcoin will always surprise me. Things I didn't have on my bingo card for 2023:

  • Imminent ETF approval
  • Entering a bull market amidst +5% rates
