In the wake of the first three quarters of 2023, the financial landscapes of federal, state, municipal, and social security budgets have disclosed a notable deficit of €91.5 billion. According to the Statistical Federal Office (Destatis), public budgets witnessed a 7.7% increase in expenditures while only experiencing a 6.1% growth in revenues compared to the same period last year. Revenues amounted to €1,337.8 billion, while expenditures reached €1,429.3 billion.
This resulted in a deficit €25.8 billion higher than the previous year. Despite the deficit persisting predominantly at the federal level (€75.9 billion), the overall financial dynamics demand meticulous scrutiny.
