I think that's what happens when the citizens of a country are so disillusioned with the system in general that they end up thinking that whoever is elected won't change their fate anyway.
It's no surprise to see abstention reaching record levels in so many democracies around the world.
This flawed system discourages by favoring these corrupt politicians who continue to follow the same line again and again: always more debt, pushing central banks to always print more fiat money out of thin air.
In short, the downward spiral in which we are stuck.
