Get involved with catch and release. Usually it is pretty easy to do. Getting strays fixed is a huge way of helping.
For many years we have rescued drop offs as well as captured strays, got them spayed or neutered. We have fostered kittens and kept several as pets. It can feel hopeless because of the shear number of animals that are dropped off and put down but even capturing a few can make an impact in your neighborhood.
Another thing you can do is get to know your neighbors and talk to them about getting their pets fixed. Let them know you are willing to help. They may be like minded but not know others like them are their neighbors. SN and online tools are great but sometimes we forget that we can just walk down the road and talk to people about things.
Thanks for your advice. I just placed my first two. They were senior cats that had been together since kittens and were very affectionate with each other. It took longer than I expected because they came as a package. Very good feeling when I found the right home.
