Taken me way too long to decide today's track. Here's a one of my faves.
Brett Eldredge - Time Well Spent
Nice track. Great mellow feel. Sorry I took so long to get back to you, it's been a busy Sunday for me.
There are so many great country acts that are still country but have a pop / rock / folk sound. For me they're the new pop. Feels like more like the '80s / '90s
Agree with you there. I still differentiate between country and pop etc as although it's become very popular in the US and Canada, outside of their country music is definitely in the minority. (It shouldn't be, there's some really great country tracks).
Pop music these days has started to drift more into RnB elements. Take Ariana Grande as an example, she's definitely a pop artist, but there's a lot of RnB elements in her stuff.
Lots of Rock elements get used in some pop artist stuff hell even, dangerous woman contained a guitar solo 🤣.
As for folk, I do feel like what we'd traditionally recognise as folk music is pretty much just country music from a specific culture. Ed Sheerans - Gallway Girl pulls Irish folk elements but it's fundamentally a pop song.
So I definitely agree that country music is very closely aligned with pop and uses lots of other genres elements. Some country takes rap and hip hop styles and incorporates those. I've even heard some country music with screamo vocal parts.
Very versatile genre.
that Sunday Feeling
Yeah, that was my motivation for today choice 😃
For a bit of reflective Sunday morning listening, I couldn't decide between two tracks so, to heck with it, I'm just going to post both 😆
Both by Mary Chapin Carpenter.
This one: Whenever You're Ready from the Time * Sex * Love * album
I just love the piano solo intro, just under a minute, you can close your eyes and get lost for a little while and then into the vocals.
First words are:
Whenever you're ready
I've got the car and the engine running
It's such a bore when you know what's coming all the time
Whenever you're ready
To slam the door 'til the hinges fly
Trace an arc cross the big blue sky
It's always gonna be hard
To take things a little to far
This next reflective Sunday track:
The Long Way Home - also from the the Time * Sex * Love * album
A few of the lyrics stand out:
"Funny now how it all went by so fast
One day he's looking over his shoulder at the past
When everybody had to go, had to be, had to get somewhere"
"Accidents and inspiration lead you to your destination"
"Or you could be the one who takes the long way home
Roll down your window, turn off your phone
See your life as a gift from the great unknown
And your task is to receive it"
Just like above, something I can just put on and listen to and just quietly enjoy.
That's the kind of thing you put on and just sit quietly in contemplation. Really really nice.
Do whatever you want, like you're born to run!

Great submission, I'd never come across them before, their sound is very 2000s indie rock. I'll have to do a little dive into their back catalogue.
Cracking track, never heard of them, nice one. That's going on my playlist
Coheed and Cambria, welcome home. For your listening pleasure this morning.

It's gotta be "good Apollo I'm burning star IV" for me, that albums really cool. Lots of interesting techniques they use.

Sorry I was late to respond. Been a busy Sunday for me. I'm listening to "Ten speed" from that album now. It's strange how I remember every lyric 🤣

Havn't heard the streets in a while. That's a banger of a track. Great submission!
