The sale of bitcoins by the US government is further proof of the continuous failure and the persistent misjudgements of state actors. It could have been the basis for building a Bitcoin treasury. The dollar, which is coming under pressure globally due to de-dollarization, could have been backed with new collateral to regain confidence. Nothing happened. The learning curve of politics is a bit negatively sloped.

They can print "money" for free, at any time, remember? They don't need to hold btc. Bitcoin is not for them, its for you.

Good. Never interrupt the enemy when they are making a mistake.
According to their own numbers:
In fiscal year (FY) 2023, the government spent $6.13 trillion
That's 16'795 million per day (!). So the $130 million they expect to collect from this sale is just a drop in the bucket 😂 (less than 1% of the daily spending).

Good, they didn't work for it they don't deserve it.

They haven't sold yet. I believe they have a 60 day window where claims can be made on the confiscated coins before they will sell them.

Wouldn't surprise me if Wall Street' favs like BR get their share

OTC sell
BlackRock will buy it without affecting the price

That's what I heard, too. At least it's draining supply piece by piece.

Hard to grasp, as far say I remember they seized those when price was a few hundred % below. I guess that's a win for plebs

Yes. Looks like that

What are they gonna do with that? Will they clear the debts on the country?

This will be something looked back in the history books when we’re all old geezers as one of the biggest mistakes and signs to the downfall of the United States as a world power.

one thing i don’t understand is why they are selling relatively small amounts on occasion, while still holding a large chunk of coins.
if the plan was to hold, they wouldn’t sell any… if the plan was to sell, they would have sold it all by now.
why are they taking this approach of slowly selling very small amounts over a multi-year timeframe?
reply
Maybe they fear a collapse of the market price. Or they are slowly selling to state-owned secret wallets (Fed)? No idea

iirc they’ve been sporadically selling for years… this is more like yearly cost averaging haha
