Answers are not immediately evident when building open source software on an open protocol. I don't think the model of the future app store is taking a cut on sales, but providing ancillary services to users and developers. I found quite a few so far.

many people claim a 15-30% cut is too much, but basically everyone stops there instead of offering a better payment structure.

to get out of this loop, a new payment structure needs to not only work for the app creators, but also the app stores (ideally without blocking competition).
