Man those were the good old days. Me and a buddy used to just drive in circles around our city for hours at like 2am. Not driving fast or anything. But just singing at the top of our lungs. Taking turns on different parts or verses.
We'd seen Nickelback together like 6 times 🤣 along with various power metal bands like Sonata Arctica. We didn't have a care in the world back then.
Hell we'd even sing Disney tracks with multiple parts. That was our release for years, bad day let's go drive, rough news- drive, just need to get out - drive. Then we got older and life got in the way and I don't think I've seen him in person for several months. We all chat in group chats but I don't think I've seen any of them for several months.
To focus on the song itself, the lyrics better off on my own don't sound sincere, it sounds like he's telling himself that but he doesn't really believe it, there's a lot of sadness and resignation in his voice and it sounds like he's trying to accept his fate rather than truly believing the statement. Powerful track.

But you can't drink if you drive? lol
We never cruised around, we only sung songs in a car on our way to concerts. Maybe we should have but fuel is expensive lol

Mhh, I think he believes the statement but the fact that he has to accept that it's true is what makes him sad. The truth can be painful sometimes 🤔
At least better off away from her / a specific person. Not necessarily being forever alone.

Yeah there was no drinking involved. Definitely not whilst driving. Just pure good vibes and loud tracks.

Yeah I get ya. I was meaning believe not as in knowing it's true, but more like accepting it as reality, which is what you mentioned at the end. You can know something's true, but without accepting it you can't really engage with that truth. That's what I hear in those lyrics and his voice, is he knows it's true, he just doesn't want to accept it yet.
