I notice a distinct difference in my mood and well-being when I look at my phone less. I don't know if it's the tiny screen, the distance to my face, the multi-tasking & switching ... but the more I use my phone, the worse I feel.
Some things I do to keep my phone usage down:
- Log out of phone apps (Nostr, twitter, stacker.news, etc) and use desktop versions
- Leave my phone in another room / in the car / at home
- Turn off notifications
- Turn off the speaker / ringer
- Put screen into black & white mode
This week, my daily usage is at 1.5 hours/day, which is still way higher than I would like.
Once upon a time, I was under 20 minutes/day.
What does your daily usage look like? Any other tips?

I think I am going to keep my phone in safe mode for the duration of the Lenten season. That 40+ days of app disincentive.
