They're certainly an acquired taste that's for sure. I was never a fan but the kids loved them. They grow like crazy in the NZ and lots of people seemed to have a plant in their garden, they're so easy to grow. There was always a big bag of them turning up at work for you to help yourself, not that I did 😆
