"The little ones sit by their TV screens
No thoughts to think
No tears to cry
All sucked dry
Down to the very last breath
Bartender what is wrong with me
Why am I so out of breath
The captain said excuse me ma'am
This species has amused itself to death
Amused itself to death

Amused itself to death
We watched the tragedy unfold
We did as we were told
We bought and sold"

Damn 02, in the age of instant gratification and the tiktok era... The words "amused itself to death" really strikes hard.

Great submission.

reply

Yes it does strike hard. Written a few decades ago before internet and social media too. Not sure when this particular track was written but the album was recorded between 1987 & 1992

reply

Yeah that's just as scary as George Orwell's 1984. Crazy how predictable we all are.

I think there are many in the entertainment industry who see what's going. I feel some know and choose to ignore it because they are making good money, and they become part of it. Then there are those that are like "hey, this is not right!".

reply

It's very dangerous. You've got influencers selling products that half of them don't understand. As the latest and greatest fat burner or whatever. Or instead hounding on people for not doing it right and making their life look and feel worthless. Suicide rates have rocketed since the rise of social media. Along side all of that you've got other influencers telling you to buy their programmes on how to beat the market or how to make money... They make money by selling these methods... And if you didn't make money it's because you did it wrong. No it's just theoretical BS and they're scamming you. It's really dangerous to people's health, this is why I much prefer this forum style of social media. Where people aren't pushing their views/values they're just conversing respectfully with each other about common interests.

I can see why, it's really easy to listen to. She's got a really nice voice.

reply

Yes, she just broke through as an artist and I see her going far

reply

I hope she does. She's got a gorgeous voice.

Sounds almost 8bit inspired. Really interesting concept, rolling 8bit add adding other electro elements into it to create this "retro" electronic sound. Really cool.

The story of this German band is super interesting and very important for electronic music history, as @Roll said.

The band's work has influenced a diverse range of artists and many genres of modern music, including synth-pop, hip hop, post-punk, techno, house music, ambient, and club music.[1] In 2014, the Recording Academy honoured Kraftwerk with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.[2] They later won the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album with their live album 3-D The Catalogue (2017) at the 2018 ceremony. In 2021, Kraftwerk was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in the early influence category.[3] As of 2023, the band continues to tour,[4] with the members' live performances celebrating Kraftwerk's fiftieth anniversary.[5]

Amazing view. Imagine staying in that trailer!

I love the song btw, so thx for sharing :)

That "cry" in his voice is great. It sounds like it's uncontrolled and that his voice is about to crack but it's a deliberate placement and is technically really good. Nice work.

Bruno Mars channeling his inner Police with Locked Out Of Heaven, fantastic.
Where has he gone?

Yeah I can hear the police here. Great song. Mars is really talented and by all accounts a really genuine dude.

reply

yeah definitely has that Police sound, doesn't it

The Lady singing this song is good and at the 38 seconds into the music video you will see "Lightning thieves wanted"

Super chill and easy to listen to. The lyrics themselves are quiet powerful but without being delivered with any force, which is interesting. The really basic boom boom clap style beat on the bottom keeps the whole track really inoffensive and not in-your-face and the whole lot works together really well. I enjoyed that. Great submission.

This kid looks like he's just having fun. And I am all for it, it comes across in his music and gives the whole thing a really fun vibe. I hope he keeps killing it.

Royal Republic, a band that somehow didn't get the time of day during the 00s indie surge. Always reminded me of the killers or Franz Ferdinand. Here's Underwear. Enjoy.

reply

I like the first session of the song where the artists is rather talking fast than singing, funny how he keep seeing the underwear in the chorus

reply

I always found the tongue in cheek nature of this song to be fun too. It's not taking itself seriously it's just having fun with silly lyrics which is always a good laugh. Listening to this song always gives me a chuckle.

Roll throwing down more flamenco tracks for us to enjoy. Wicked guitar. Sounds great. The guys got fantastic rhythm and his notes sound super clean whilst playing an acoustic that quick. A lot of players who play quick do so on an electric, with some distortion to hide inaccuracies in finger placements. It gives you a bit of leeway to not hit it perfectly and not really be noticed. But this guy is great.
