It's probably too early for niche territories for stacker news. It was not about the money for me but for a dedicated place of a specific topic/resources, though in hindsight a territory called "ecash" could have been good instead, given that ecash/cashu occasionally spills over into the fedimint territory.
Fedimint has their own discord anyways, cashu their own discord/telegram, an ecash general one could be useful here. But still, I don't know if this is the best spot to create a closed garden community. It would all bubble up to the ~bitcoin territory anyways.
Thoughts? I probably jumped the gun on territories, I'll probably give it up unless there's demand.

I support create territory for Cashu and Ecash
reply
As separate or all under one called ecash?
reply
Or unique with ecash or only cashu
reply
I'm not buying 3 territories so you're on your own there
reply
Solution: Create one territory for Cashu.
As Fedimint and Cashu are separated protocol. Well done!
reply
I don't care enough about cashu that much where I would create a territory for it. Other people are welcome to and I would be interested in seeing the posts.

Too bad eCash on Fedimints and Cashu are not fungible. Then you'd be able to decide what trust model you want to take with your Layer 3 bitcoin. Interoperability between Fedi and Cashu would be awesome.
reply
Ecash on each fedimint or ecash on each cashu is not fungible either. Lightning is the interoperability.

Isn't this the question of territories. What is niche or too niche. :)
My opinion though I'm just one data point is that ALL of the bitcoin territories should just be in bitcoin. Take that for what its worth. I guess it is all about tradeoffs though.
reply
I don't care about other territories, just this one.
I don't think it's even possible to do a sub territory but honestly what's the difference even if that was a feature? I honestly don't understand the direction or point with them at all.
reply
I don't really use any of the features of territories so you will get no disagreement from me. I think you can subscribe to territories and mute them but I don't do either.
reply
A discord/telegram is such a different use case than SN that I would leave that out of the calculus.
I think it only makes sense to run a territory if you see it as a labor of love, where community management is something you just do.

You could argue they could all go into "Lightning". But I think they should all be together in "Ecash/Fedimint/Cashu" OR just call it "Layer 3" (my preferred option). There are already too many "Territories". If every Layer 2 had its own territory, the dropdown list would go off the screen.
reply
Even lightning feels redundant to me.
reply
Most of the territories are probably jumping the gun but I'm excited for this one. There's been some good news and discussion. I hope you keep it going.
reply
It looks like i could rename to ecash maybe, do you think that would still solve the purpose?
reply
Sure - Cashu talk would be welcome as well.
reply
I think a fedimint territory is justified. When people start using fedimints a lot of discussions will be there.
reply
It could actually be relegated under ~bitcoin, as sub-territory. Would make more sense there.
reply
And how does one do that?
reply
The functionality has not yet been implemented, but I think it's in the backlog.
