I cannot tell you how many times I've heard people say they wanted someone who could "run the US like a business" as a president (as if even the most successful businessman the world has ever seen could make the US fiscally responsible just by becoming president...). Anyways, this sentiment that many seem to have completely misses the mark, as the state, which operates on coercion, cannot be compared to any private business. Also, does anyone else hear actually believe the surveys from the Atlantic alluded to in this article that suggest almost all of the country actual believes the "civic duty" narrative regarding paying their "fair share" of taxes.
