Polls can be fun here, but what if you're a Bitcoin business could they rely on the simple poll that we have on the site right now?
I doubt it as a lot could be riding on poll to give a true snapshot of user views.
Here's some solutions that could help:
  • SN's poll right now is limited to just ten answers - let polls be expanded.
  • Let businesses double-check an important question by asking a question later, in a different way.
  • Allow Businesses to ask follow up questions to Stackers who give certain answers.
  • Offer Stackers an incentive to complete them and territories to post them.
This sounds more like a survey to me. Who wants surveys on Stacker News?
Well, I'd guess that Bitcoin businesses would want them; the business behind Stacker News could use this as a way to generate more revenue, territory owners would probably welcome s financial lifeline too. If someone wants to create a survey that's twice as big as normal, they could pay twice as much. Thirdly, some Stackers might welcome the ability to earn sats if they complete surveys.
There's another incentive too, if a good survey helps Bitcoin friendly businesses make the right decisions, their products and services might get crucial insight to develop with confidence, thus growing the circular economy.
We're obviously big on the privacy of users , so we'd expect only the minimum, such as cookies to stop Stackers from completing a survey twice.
So, what do people think? Should simple polls expand, at a cost, to help businesses? Could incentives work? Would surveying pseudonymous users be helpful for Businesses?
Heads up for @ekzyis to give us his SN Dev perspective. Also a call out to @in_bits for their business perspective - (they recently created a post asking how many sats we'd want to earn to watch a 60 second ad.)
I don't see any downside. I think it's nice to have the choice. Would be cool to be able to crosstab :D
