Once you figure out how something works, then learn how to simplify it - when you can simplify it without affecting the "performance" ( e.g. with fewer tools or less setups ), it means you really understand it.
doing more with less is the way.
I find teaching something to someone else can really solidify that in your own practice. And you need to understand it to teach it effectively.
