I would respectfully push back. I think in real everyday life most people are pretty respectful. Its just the angriest 0.01% that get attention on TV and social media. I had a gun rights conversation with my "lefty" friend just last week and it was very reasonable and respectful despite no one agreeing on anything. You just need to surround yourself with reasonable people who are open to learning, new data, and informing their opinion.
