Yeah, oddly enough, it seems that the feds at that point were actually the ones endorsing sound money (see "backed by species") and that made the local banks undesirable. I might be interpreting that wrong, but it's part of the reason I shared. Does anybody here know the details of this history?
interesting. i read this more as an overreach on the part of the federal government. although i also think ohio sucks here too since it put some wild tax on the banks for some reason.

Yup! That's exactly how I read it. Both the state and federal government were overreaching/meddling. Also, just the drama of these three guys basically robbing the federal bank while deputized by the state seems surreal.
this is interesting. so the federal government put some federal bank branches there. ohio forcefully taxed them for some reason. the supreme court then said those federal banks are not subject to ohio's laws. is this a correct summation?
