pull down to refresh

It's a frigid and snowy day in my neck of the woods, but I know spring is right around the corner because pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training today.
Spring Training seems to start earlier and be longer every year but I always enjoy this time of year. Especially once the games begin. Most teams nowadays pretty much have their opening day roster set heading into Spring Training maybe aside from the last guy on the bench or in the bullpen, but there are always injuries that spring up and there is usually a young player that shines and gets hyped up as potentially breaking through the roster.
I used to go to Spring Training games every March when I was a kid, as our family would take our annual vacation down to Florida around that time. The warmth, the sun, watching MLB players in small parks, it was always a nice respite from the cold Canadian winters. We would usually go watch Expos and Mets games as their complex was the closest to where my grandparents lived in Florida.
Those winter vacations were always filled with sport. Whether it be the baseball games we attended or just going to the park to throw the ball or play some tennis. I have fond memories of my grandfather taking me to watch Jai alai. That's a pretty wild sport.
And of course there was always the March madness tournament. I was never really into college basketball but I loved watching March Madness during those vacations. Speaking of March Madness are we going to do something for March Madness?
I am old enough to be wise enough to not wish for time to hurry, but the beginning of Spring Training always has me looking forward to the beginning of spring.

Spring also means tball season for my little one which is a lot of fun. I had a blast last year helping her coaches out. Whether it was just chasing errant balls or helping keep the kiddos in line for their drills or coaching the bases so they knew where to run.
Can't wait to get my feet in diamond dirt again and a ball in my hand. I am glad my daughter likes it. My son played tball for one year and I tried to teach him how to hit and pitch but he was fairly disinterested in it. One of his friends now plays baseball so maybe I can entice him to come out and play some ball this summer if we bring his friend along.

The service we subscribe to offers 5 free flex channels. I usually add MLB network during baseball season and then switch is over to NFL network come October. I will be switching it back before ST games start.
