I already showcased a Velvet Underground song here, but Lou Reed had a long, successful career as a solo performer with many different musicians backing him up. The first time I heard his live album, Rock and Roll Animal, I was floored. I chose the first track, which might contain the best live rock intro in history. Here's Sweet Jane:

I'd never really heard much of Lou Reed. (Or if I had, I hadn't recognised it) but that's got a great sound. Really cool prog elements with the guitar. Hearing some similarities with David Gilmore/Eric Clapton and people of that era.

That's Steve Hunter on guitar. He has that Gilmore sweet tastiness.
