I've done it before. It's nice. Lower anxiety and less hunger (weird I know but I'd also lose my appetite when I used to smoke pot).
For anyone planning on trying: be careful going cold turkey. I was surprised to learn withdrawal can cause sciatica.

me and my wife both quit caffeine at same time. She had terrible headaches for about 10 days....I had no headaches but started having weird leg pains. At first I didn't connect it to caffeine withdrawal but some internet searches turned it up.
I suppose its the same cause of headaches: vascular expansion. Caffeine causes your blood vessels to constrict and when there is no caffeine your body initially has trouble regulating dilation naturally, which causes expanded blood vessels which put pressure on surrounding nerves.
It lasted about 8 or so days for me. literally felt I pulled a hamstring.

I would put my money on kidneys that can be confused with sciatica..

Oh kidney issues cause your legs to have vague radiating pain?

Im no doctor, But i know both are confused sometimes. Would make sense if you drop a diuretic, it affects the kidney quickly. But, I think the leg usually point out to sciatica indeed

I also dropped it.
In my case caffeine fucked up my sleep quality, even when drinking small amounts in the very morning.
Common knowledge is that coffeine half-life is around 6-8 hours, so you should be fine with your sleep quality when you drink it in the morning, right? Right?
Nope. What if I told you that caffeine metabolite paraxanthine stays up to 36 hours in your system. And it have similar stimulating effects as caffeine itself.
reply
Maybe this is why I wake up in the middle of the night and have trouble sleeping if I take more than 200 mg of caffeine.
reply
Good for you. I went off coffee and caffeine for times when I needed to. I proved I could do it and I drink less now. Much less. Its more of a treat now.
reply
It's easy to get rid of coffee if you don't like the taste (in my case)

did you replace it with something else?
reply
yes
Star Anise Tea. Sometimes with milk, or just pure

I'm really sensitive to caffeine, so daily coffee fucks me up. After a few months, I start to feel strung out.
I cope by having decaf a few days on, a few days off. Even decaf gets me eventually if I don't have those reset days.

but it's so yummy?
What do you keep on your desk (if you work at one?), and what do you sip on while reading?
reply
Star anise tea

In my entire life time I have had only 4 cups of hot coffee and 2 cold coffee cans. It's been more than 10 years now and I haven't had caffeine intake in whatsoever form.

since quitting caffeine my productivity is generally up. Before quitting I was "active" in the mornings, but not necessarily very productive. Then about 2-3pm my productivity would basically grind to a halt. Since quitting I'm more capable of getting productive work done all day.
Having said that I love coffee. I've switched to decaf but the taste isn't the same.

i have "quit" caffeine for periods of time before. i like the idea of it, but sometimes it's just nice to have something interesting to drink since i don't really drink alcohol anymore. i've reserved myself to have at least one little vice for now haha
reply
Yeah, I've been toying with the idea of using a 25/75 blend of beans (25 caf / 75 decaf). In theory there is some milligram amount of caffeine that falls below the threshold of addiction causing....
