Not free from boding thoughts,1 Ge Ge said, ‘We’re aren’t done yet. We have to get Matthew.’
‘Just leave him in there,’ said Hood. ‘It’s not like we can bury him.’
‘What do you plan on doing with his body?’ asked Akaitcho.
‘We have body bags in the medical cabinet,’ said Richards. ‘If you put him in the bag while he’s still in the storage pod and seal it, it should vacuum him in. We could put the body in his sleeping chamber.’
This was what they did, but no sooner had they shut the door to Flinders’ chamber than Trim began shrieking and clawing at the door. The cat slashed wildly at anyone who tried to move him away, and made such a disturbance that the crew decided to let the cat into the sleeping chamber. Indeed, the crew found this display of loyalty comforting, and the animal was allowed to remain a dweller in that savage place.2
Chapter 21 tomorrow, same time, same place.
