You could say the same about the Internet protocol itself when its development was in the early innings, just like e-mail, chat or streaming. Today even grandmas use those technologies on a daily basis without knowing how they work. Heck, I don't even know what's happening under the hood while I'm typing these words, but I know 2 things:

Phoenix wallet has me type in every protocol message in hex, then I have to hand encrypt it. It's hard!!!
