I more or less had the same understanding in 2001 when I was like 14. I saw the prequals as a modern reminder of the horrors of centralization, and trusting powerful leaders to decide our lives for us. I didn't really understand back then the role the USA played in establishing the very organizations that would later become the boogeymen against whom we would spend trillions to stop.
