In case you missed it: The value of the #Euro has briefly hit parity w/US Dollar for the first time in almost 20yrs.

Normally the markets are forward looking and price in things like that
But if you are confident in this assessment are you going to trade it? Saying stuff is easy, actually doing stuff is hard.
reply
the market is forward looking, but it's not like the market wasn't told/expecting a rate hike since last year and see how it is now.
60% of my networth have been in USD for the past 5 years or so (stocks and cash), quite a far bit in BTC and only 10% in my local currency. Working out well for me so far.

Ownership of productive businesses isn't money in USD. Indeed, companies are often leveraged which is literally being shot USD.

I have to get USD to trade in US stocks, including when I sell the stocks. They handle the FX risk on their business end.

The way your brokerage denominates does not affect the exposure of your positions - it affects your taxes at most.
reply
I don't think you understand what I am saying. It isn't how the broker denominate my position. You have to get USD to buy US exchange listed stocks, and when you sell, you get the USD. These aren't denominations, these are actual currencies swapped. i.e. I have to exchange into USD before deposit/through the broker. This is also why IB is a great broker since they have incredible FX rates.

Why do you hold it though? Immediately exchange it!
europoor here - no vacation in the US for the next few years I guess :/

There was a post, here on SN, yesterday, ... related:
Euro lost almost 20% of it's purchasing power against USD. #43568
reply
No, it was today, not yesterday that we saw the zero in front of the decimal point
But it might differ from exchange to exchange and depending on bid-ask spread....
reply
Right, ... yesterday it almost kissed parity.
Today it reached parity. May differ based on your broker price feed. Described here:
$EURUSD parity print
seeing it on some price feeds but not on others, #FX is decentralized so broker pricing can differ
this would be first time $EURUSD has traded below 1.0000 since Dec. 6, 2002
now a bounce coming in after the parity test

The American Establishment are rejoicing because now most americans, despite the high inflation and supply chain problems, are thinking "at least we arent europe" and just accepting it!

Who exactly? I haven't heard a single positive word from top politicians like Biden or top senators. Neither did any of the top S&P500 CEOs.
I think you're projecting. This ambiguous "establishment" does not exist.

Idk I got air conditioning. In general the better city planning with more trees (which isn't perfect either and could still improve as well) makes it less necessary to have it.
But yes, our economy is fucc more than us.
