It all started when a random American man trolled our iconic Marina Bay Sands on his FB page. He captioned this famous Singapore landmark “Downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee 😮😮 It's Beautiful 🤯".
Boy, did he get us Singaporeans fired up. We instantly bombarded his post with uniquely Singapore-related images that came with captions that Americans could understand. Except that Americans would conjure up certain images in their minds, only to find that they totally fell out of their expectations.
Of course, as a self-respecting Singaporean, I participated in taking the piss. I chose the caption “Bitcoin” and paired it with an image of a 1-cent coin used in Singapore.
You know, Bit-coin. Haha.
I thought I was being funny. Still do actually. I still remember how my comment attracted a response from one of my fellow countrymen. He said one word that said it all.
“Choy.”
Choy is the Singlish word that we use by habit to dismiss things that we think are inauspicious. Like Bitcoin becoming worthless.
That was then! Thanks to SN, I know better now.
I love how I’m earning sats via proof of work. Typing to get sats. I think it’s even more safe than my full-time job. After all, I am on a contractual basis. My principal may decide not to reemploy me. But I can post and comment here 24/7 to secure some sats.
Like now. 11.30pm. Hovering on the edge of my bedtime. Shall end this here and sleep. Because I know that my sats won’t run away in the middle of the night.
