Here is an interactive visualization of where Bitcoin has retouched its previous ATH.
A couple of points on data:
  • For the number of countries, I have calculated ATH based on 69K USD with the exchange rate of Nov 2021 (Yahoo Finance data). As you can guess, there is no definitive source for ATH.
  • Current price I'm scraping from Google search/Finance for all currency pairs. Got the data today. I may automate the data refresh depending on interest.
The visualization was done in JavaScript, and data prep was done in Python.

So currencies that are rapidly devalued/debased, Bitcoin is mooning. But in terms of purchasing power accounting for inflation, Bitcoin is "down" so to speak. Even if Bitcoin reaches $70k USD, that isn't an ATH in purchasing power.
reply
What would make Bitcoin purchasing power higher? wider adoption?
reply
Just outpaced demand.
Like does it matter if 1btc = $1M usd if a hamburger costs $10,000?
I'd like to see BTC measured in purchasing power for a basket of goods (could use the government one).
What I really want to know is "are people struggling or prospering?"
reply
Bitcoin will have to hit $79,014 to reach a new all-time high in US dollar purchasing power terms.
Die to inflation since last ATH.

Mexico and Iran are outperforming the dollar?
reply
Why? Is there any theory?
reply
If USA loses China as it's main manifacturer, then Mexico is the second best option (cheap labor, decent skill, easier supply chain). The investors and businesses may be taking this into account.

Look at the color. It's darker than the USA.
I heard there's a lot of Chinese investment going into Mexico. But Iran? Maybe they are doing well selling oil to Russia? No idea, I just thought their fiat currency was inflating like everyone else's.
reply
yes. I was looking for a theory like you have here.

Mexico and Afganistán are doing that well with their monetary policies???
reply
It depends on how much we want to read from the data. Just for fun, I'll say Afghanistan started doing well once the USA left
