Cool concept but more of a novelty. It’s expensive for its hash rate and even with low electricity costs < 0.08/kwh you are probably better off just buying BTC.
If I lived in North Dakota, where electricity is almost free (.04/kwh) and need heat 10 months/yr, it might be worth it.
Well I think the appeal to these type of ideas is more decentralization than profit. I doubt I'll ever even get my money back on my s9s (partly because I keep giving them away so other people can do this), but if we get to the point where every HVAC on the planet is hooked up to a miner, we're more decentralized than ever. I admit, that's a hyperbolic scenario, but even an eighth of the HVACs on the planet vs. attack entity X would be a pretty stacked (pun intended) fight.

I agree that is what is needed. An appliance integration like HVAC, water heaters, etc, with real hash rate. A $500 space heater with only 14Th isn’t going to decentralize much.
