Isaiah 14:9 The realm of the dead below is all astir to meet you at your coming; it rouses the Rephaim to greet you—
Dr.’s Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying are a husband-and-wife pair of evolutionary biologists who host a regular podcast. Their son Zach produces their show, during which Bret and Heather have informed and interesting discussions on various scientific and socially relevant topics.
In several podcast episodes Dr. Weinstein has, interestingly, said the following: “I have argued for using the term Goliath to refer to a force in the universe one can detect. What is Goliath? Goliath is the force that opposes meaningful change…Is Goliath a conspiracy? No. Goliath is a hybrid between colluding entities including things like corporations and political parties, departments of state, things like that; and emergent properties.”1
In the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel, Goliath is the Philistine giant who challenges the armies of Yahweh in the valley of Elah. Goliath is described in the 17th chapter, verses 4-7:
“4A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span. a 5He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels; 6on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. 7His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels.”2
It's not commonly understood that Goliath’s gigantism described here, while it may be literal, also has deep theological and spiritual connections. It connects him to the sons of the fallen watchers of Genesis 6 who, in pre-flood times, had children with human women known as Nephilim. In post-flood times, there came to be known many giant clans with similar origins.
“The exact relations between different families of giants are a little unclear. For example, the Nephilim (Numbers 13:32-33), appear to be present before and after the flood. The Emites, the Ammonites (or Anakites) and the Rephaim (Deuteronomy 2:10-11), existed after the Flood and appear to be separate entities although the chronicler often uses the phrase ‘like’ suggesting they had a similar phenotype. The Anakim seem to be derived from the Nephilim. The Rephaim although similar to the Nephilim, appear to be distinct from them with respect to family lineage. Deuteronomy 2:21 states the Rephaim were largely subdued by the Ammonites which ‘dwelt in their stead’.”3
So what does it mean when atheist, evolutionary biologists are able to detect a “force in the universe” of incredible, evil power and have chosen to name it “Goliath”? Certainly, Weinstein is using the term “Goliath” metaphorically. He would probably not draw any supernatural conclusions from his observations. But the connection is uncanny. Listen to the words he uses: force, hybrid, entities. Yes these words have rational meanings but again, uncanny.
Are we witnessing the return of the Nephilim? Would we recognize it if we were? Is this how it happens? Goliath, in the sense that Weinstein hypothesizes, is hardly a beast emerging from the sea or a swarm of locusts that look like horses as one might expect. But what might one expect? Are we expecting a red skinned horned creature with a bifurcated tail and a pitchfork? Or does evil on the earth emerge in the shadowy nexus of wicked people and the organizations they construct?

Daniel states that at that time people will only believe in the God of forces:
Daniel 11:37 (KJV) 38 But in his estate shall he honor the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honor with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.
Some translations say God of fortresses. Either way, at the end people believe in might, which is what Goliath was guilty of and killed for.
