I have been making the same smoothie every day at home for over 4 years now. it is perfect. It is delicious. It is amazingly healthy. I prepare it in the morning and drink it around noon every day. My morning routine consists of making my cup of coffee, I am using a Bialetti Moka and I grind my own beans. While sipping my coffee, I then start the preparation of the smoothie. I eat nothing after 8pm the night before, and the smoothie is my breakfast and lunch. It keeps me lean, regular, and energetic. And I want to share this magical formula perfected over years here with you. The first thing I do is prepare a cup with:
  • Chia seeds
  • Golden Flax seeds
  • Cacao nibs
  • Goji berries
  • 3 jumbo Medjool Dates.
Soak them in a cup of water for 3-4 hours. The chia and flax seeds form a gelatinous ball around the seed indicating that they are sprouting. The goji berries and dates get soaked, plump, and soften, making them blend much better, and they never stick to the blender blades. The cacao nibs resist water, but they seem to blend a bit better when soaked. Over the course of several hours, I stir up the slurry to make sure it is all getting evenly soaked. Chia seeds clump when not stirred.
About an hour before I start the smoothie, around 11am, I place the cup with the above ingredients in the freezer. I have found that frozen dates and goji berries blend even better after soaking then freezing and it makes the smoothie cold. I also place about a liter of water in the freezer, not to freeze, but to get very cold. I keep ripened bananas in the freezer which come into play. Pro-tip: ripened bananas last a very long time when frozen.
At noonish, I get the blender out and put the following ingredients in:
  • Coconut: I open a fresh young coconut. Empty the coconut water into the blender, and scrape the meat with a sturdy spoon. Young coconut flesh is soft and able to be scooped with a spoon.
  • A head of purple lettuce, hydroponically grown.
  • A few heaping tablespoons of plain Yogurt. Crucial that it contains living probiotics: The kind I get contains Lactobacillus acidophilus. Puts the smooth into the smoothie.
  • Frozen banana - I place a frozen banana in a bottle of water long enough for the skin to soften - about 8 minutes. Then I squeeze the banana into the blender and it slides right out of the skin. Very satisfying.
Here is where I go nuts:
  • 1/2 cup of roasted almonds
  • 1/2 cup of Brazil nuts
  • 1/2 cup of walnuts
  • 1/2 cup of cashews
  • 1/4 cup of Macadamia nuts
  • 1/4 cup of Hazelnuts
Then I add the semi-frozen cup of Chia, flax, cacao, Goji, and Dates. Fill the blender to the top with nearly frozen water, then blend for two minutes and enjoy. I buy most ingredients in bulk to reduce expense. The cost per smoothie is about $10. The vibrant feeling of health: Priceless.
Carnivores have entered the chat and are rolling their eyes...
Haha, joking. Thank you for sharing your superfood smoothie! I'm not really big on smoothies, but my wife makes smoothies for herself from time to time. I'll steal this and forward it to her.

Oh, there was a carnivore in the chat already. I should have added that I eat whatever I want for dinner. And I have been known to enjoy a good steak. My friends don't understand how I keep the weight off, because that smoothie is not low on calories, and I go big at dinner. I just stop eating at 8pm and this intermittent fast each day spans 16 hours.

I find intermittent fasting to work for me too. I do the same thing, stop eating by 8pm and don't eat the first meal the next day until after 12pm. Well, I've always been a skinny guy, and I probably have the skinny gene or something, because I could eat a lot and not gain weight. But going on intermittent fasting actually helped me with my energy level. I feel so much more energetic, awake, and alert ever since I started it about one and a half years ago. I'm not very strict on it, I would eat breakfast on Saturdays with my friends after our morning walk or sometimes cook Sunday breakfast for my kids and eat with them, but I'm pretty consistent in following it during week days.

Nice. Yes, I am very consistent with my smoothie/intermittent fasting program at home, but when I travel or go on vacation with the family, all bets are off. Interestingly, when I eat breakfast and stop the smoothie/fasting I feel a decrease in energy level. Yes, contrary to what I have heard all my life, eating breakfast decreases my energy level throughout the day.

I agree on the breakfast part to a certain extent. For me, eating breakfast won't decrease my energy level throughout the day, but I do feel a bit bloated and more drowsy after the meal.
I believe every human is different in their own way, and we should each try to find what works best for each of us. To you and me, breakfast might be a hoax. To some others, it is indeed the most important meal of the day.
