So, my best friend is getting married this May and my girl and I thought that it would be a good idea to give him some Bitcoin as their wedding present.
I plan to create a wallet, transfer 100K-250K sats (economically unspendable UTXOs are a concern so maybe I will go for 250K sats) stamp it into a metal card with the message "Value this as much as you value our botherhood"
For context, he's not a Bitcoin skeptic, but he ain't orange pilled either, he's the one friend one goes for financial advise (savings/spendings/credits stuff/business stuff) and I'm his computer nerd friend who he always go to when he wants to understand a new software, buy a new computer or phone, of find a promising technology/tech company to put money in.
He's been listening to me on Bitcoin for a while and the guy is impressed on how much money he has made, and I always had this romatic idea of being his kids cool uncle (since I don't want kids so far), and maybe, being the one who's paid for one of the kids university or something like that.
Who do you guys think? Any suggestions?
Don't try to convince me of not doing it, this guy and I grew up together and even moved to the same country following each other's advice, so I know the gift will be somewhat underwhelming at first but will carry a lot of sentimental value, more tha anything else I could get him, unless I get him a silver GBA SP with a copy of Pokemon Sapphire and a blue GameCube with a copy of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, which will be a lot more expensive and won't last forever.
I've done this several times, especially for newborn kids, and told the parents to hold until they're 21. I've used Electrum to generate the seed, because it doesn't require knowing the derivation path. And I kept a copy of the seed for myself, just in case.

Wow, that's a great idea. I myself had a gift on one Christmas from my friend. It was a paper wallet with some Sats.

Very cool yeah you could do it like that or use an opendime. If you really want to take it next level create a seed signer and print a cover that looks like a gamecube or something and give it to him, that way he can upload the keys to a device and interact with the wallet you created and less of a chance he just dumps the keys to an online device like a mobile or desktop wallet

I think it's an excellent idea, I sent my brother his wedding gift in sats, since my brother is Hodler too.

Something to ponder is do you want to keep a copy of the seed phrase in case he loses it?
reply
That's a good question, I think I would hold a copy for a time at least.
