A lot of that other negative stuff is thought to be downstream of unemployment and inflation, so it might not be as lacking of an indicator as it initially seems.

I could see that. Crime, drug addiction etc are often caused by lack of financial stability and sense of purpose and opportunity

Yes I would think it needs some measures beyond economic ones.
