They suggest that down votes are allowed, and the revenue is distributed to the whole community fairly, or burnt.
I think it could be argued that few or no upvotes constitutes a negative feedback loop. In such a case people are seeing your comment and choosing to ignore it.

I wish there was some way to vote on stuff that doesn't lead to acceleration of echo chambers. Seems to be a universal problem in social media platforms- algorithms feed you low value porn that stimulates your dopamine to keep you engaged.
